According to the University of Minnesota's Racial and Ethnic Diversity Index, North Minneapolis is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Minneapolis. Diversity has always been a positive term in my book, but there can be two sides to every coin. The positive side of diversity brings new opportunities and people into the community making it a wonderful place to live. The flip side is that inequality still exists and separation of people and opportunities continues. I feel art can be used as a bridge to get people to come together and find common ground. Doors Open is a city-wide celebration occurring on May 18-19, 2019. The goal of the event is to bring the community into spaces they don't usually get to see. I'm participating to share the story of the North Side and to get community members who don't normally get to meet together and learn the story of the community we all share.
